  • The AFE914 is a series of multi-channel, synchronous sampling 16-bit Δ-Σ analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) featuring a built-in programmable gain amplifier (PGA), internal reference, and an on-board oscillator. The AFE91x encompasses all the necessary functionalities typically required in medical electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram applications. With its high level of integration and exceptional performance, the AFE91x enables the development of scalable medical instrument systems with significantly reduced size, power consumption, and overall cost.

Each channel of the AFE91x includes a flexible input multiplexer (mux) that can independently connect to internally generated signals for testing, temperature, and lead-off detection. Additionally, any configured input channel can generate a right leg drive (RLD) output signal. Lead-off detection can be implemented within the device using pull-up/pull-down resistors or excitation current sinks/sources. Three integrated amplifiers are used to generate the Wilson Central Terminal (WCT) required for standard 12-lead ECG. Multiple AFE91x devices can be connected in a daisy-chain configuration in high channel count systems.

The device is housed in a compact 8mm × 8mm, 64-ball BGA package. The BGA version is rated for an industrial temperature range of 0°C to +70°C.
